Stillbirth
Stillbirth is the death of a fetus after 20 weeks of pregnancy but before birth. The potential causes of stillbirth are not always clear, but risk factors include maternal age, pregnancy complications (such as gestational diabetes or high blood pressure), infections, problems with the placenta, and birth defects. Other factors that may increase the risk of stillbirth include smoking, drug and alcohol use, obesity, and poor prenatal care. Women who experience stillbirth may require emotional support and counseling to cope with the loss.
