Respiratory Failure
Respiratory failure is a serious condition in which the respiratory system fails to adequately oxygenate the blood and/or remove carbon dioxide. This can be caused by a variety of factors, such as lung diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, or asthma, as well as trauma or neurological disorders that affect the respiratory muscles. Risk factors for respiratory failure include advanced age, obesity, smoking, and a history of lung disease or other medical conditions. Symptoms can include shortness of breath, rapid breathing, confusion, and fatigue, and treatment typically involves oxygen therapy, medication, and/or mechanical ventilation.
