Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the ovaries, which are the female reproductive organs responsible for producing eggs. The exact cause of ovarian cancer is unknown, but potential risk factors include older age, a family history of ovarian or breast cancer, mutations in certain genes such as BRCA1 and BRCA2, hormone therapy, endometriosis, and obesity. Symptoms of ovarian cancer may include abdominal bloating, pelvic pain, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly, and changes in bowel or bladder habits. Diagnosis is typically made through imaging tests and biopsy, and treatment may involve surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, depending on the stage and characteristics of the cancer.
