Down Syndrome

BlueTextureWallFull.jpg

Down syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21. It is the most common chromosomal abnormality in humans and can lead to developmental delays and intellectual disabilities. The risk of having a child with Down syndrome increases with maternal age, with the majority of cases occurring in mothers over 35 years old. Other risk factors include a family history of the condition and being a carrier of the genetic abnormality.
