Pulmonary Aspiration
Aspiration is an occurrence wherein substances like food, liquids, or other materials inadvertently enter an individual's airway and, over time, may reach the lungs. This can occur during the act of swallowing or when stomach contents regurgitate. Aspiration poses a significant risk, potentially resulting in severe health complications, including pneumonia and the development of chronic lung scarring.
