What is a LINX Device?
The LINX device is a band made from interlinked titanium beads with internal magnetic cores. When connected by titanium wiring, the device become a ring-shape. The LINX device is surgically implanted around the esophagus. When functioning correctly, the device does not impact swallowing or regular movement of the esophageal area, but rather strengthen it and help preven reflux symptoms commonly associated with GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease).
Why is the FDA Recalling the LINX Reflux Management System?
Multiple reports of the device coming apart inside a patient’s body led to the recall. Not only are symptoms of GERD more likely to return after breakage, but additional surgery is required to remove the damaged device.
